SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University water polo programs have signed four Chicago natives to join the Bronco men's and women's squads next season, head coach Keith Wilbur announced during the late signing period that began in mid-April.
Illinois State Male Player of the Year Chris Parolin singed a national letter of intent with the Bronco men's squad, and on the women's side, Illinois State Female Player of the Year Emily Bonk, as well as All-Americans Elizabeth Perry and Kendra Betke, will join the Broncos for next spring's season.
"I am really looking forward to having Chris join our men's team and to having Elizabeth, Emily and Kendra join our women's team," Wilbur said. "I believe these Illinois players can help bring both of our programs to another level, and I hope we can continue the trend of attracting top water polo players from the Midwest to Santa Clara University."
Parolin is a four-year starter for Fenwick, leading the squad to three state championships. He was a first-team All-American as a junior and is also a two-time All-State honoree. He has participated on the Midwest Zone Team for the last four years.
Bonk and Perry are both two-time All-Americans, leading Fenwick to an undefeated record this past season, 32-0 to capture the state championship. Betke received All-American honors last season and is a three-time All-State recipient.
All four play club for Windy City Water Polo, under the direction of co-coaches Jack Wagner and Dave Perry, who also coach the girls and boys teams, respectively, at Fenwick High School, where Parolin, Bonk and Perry play. Betke competes at nearby Oak Park High School.
"Jack and Dave have consistently produced excellent water polo players through their club and high school programs, and I am very excited that four of their players have decided to join our team next year."
