SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Katie Radvanyi scored five goals to lead the Santa Clara University women's water polo team to a 13-8 victory over Occidental to close participation at the Slugfest Invitational, hosted by UC Santa Cruz at its East Fieldhouse. The Broncos lost to Cal State Bakersfield in a morning contest and are now 6-5 on the season.
Alanna Simpkins and Kathleen Hamm added three goals each against the Tigers, while Catherine Flynn and Danielle Mansfield posted one tally each. Amanda Ginn recorded three steals in a solid defensive effort, while Anne Ginotti and Kristin Barnes split time in the cage and registered three saves apiece.
"It was a long a tournament and our effort was typical of a fourth game of the weekend," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We lacked energy getting out of the game but midway through we found it and played well the rest of the way."
Flynn and Katy Shumm led the Broncos against CS Bakersfield with two goals each, and Bryn Asher, Mansfield and Radvanyi added one apiece to round out Bronco scoring. Radvanyi added four steals against the Roadrunners, while Ginotti posted seven blocks in goal.
Santa Clara got to within 8-7 late in the match, but a couple of CSB goals put the game out reach.
The Broncos will return to the pool next weekend and participate in the UC Davis Tournament.
