STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team fell to ninth-ranked Hawaii 13-5 at the Stanford Invitational tonight at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Broncos fell to seventh-ranked California 21-6 earlier in the day and are now 3-2 on the season.
Alanna Simpkins led the Broncos with her two-goal performance. She also drew a kick out and a four-meter. Teammate Katie Radvanyi scored once for Santa Clara, and drew five kick outs. The other two Bronco goals were netted by Kellie Dunn and Kelsey Caulum. Goalkeeper Anne Ginotti also performed well for the Broncos, recording 14 blocks on the night.
"I thought we played a much better game," SCU head coach Keith Wilbur said. "I saw improvement through all four quarters and hopefully we can continue the effort through the weekend."
The Broncos remain at the Invitational will battle top-ranked UCLA tomorrow 10 a.m. to close out round-robin play. The match for seventh place will be at 1:30 p.m., with the fifth place (2:40), the third place (3:50) and the championship (5 p.m.) contests to follow.
