The Santa Clara volleyball team fell 3-1 to LMU on Saturday in Los Angeles. Game scores were 25-21, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-15. Santa Clara is 12-10 and 3-6 in the WCC. LMU is 14-10 and 6-3 in the WCC.
Santa Clara hit .099 with 49 kills (34 e, 152 att.). Santa Clara collected 58 digs, 45 assists and three service aces. LMU hit .216 with 56 kills (24 e, 148 att.). LMU collected 55 digs, 53 assists and five service aces.
Individually Santa Clara was led by the 13 kills of Kaleigh Durket as she hit .250 (5 e, 32 att.). Kayla Lommori had nine kills, Tanya Schmidt collected eight and Dana Knudsen seven. Emily Burke had 23 assists and 15 digs. Bridget O'Hara had 12 digs.
Santa Clara and LMU tied it up four times in the first set when the Broncos took a 14-9 lead on a team block by Knudsen and Durket. LMU rallied and then the two team tied up four times before LMU took 21-20 lead on a Williamson attack error. Three straight kills by the Lions ended set one with LMU taking a 25-21 victory. Santa Clara hit -.045 with 10 kills (12 e, 44 att). LMU hit .116 with 13 kills (8 e, 43 att.).
Santa Clara was behind 21-19 in the second set when it scored on two straight Bronco kills. A kill by Schmidt and an attack error by Megan Nash and the Broncos went up 23-22. Timeout LMU. Trading points, Lommori's kill gave the Broncos a 24-23 lead. A team block by Durket and Knudsen and a block solo by Knudsen gave SCU a 26-24 set two victory. Santa Clara hit .189 with 16 kills (9 e, 37 att.). LMU hit .057 with 12 kills (10 e, 34 att.).
In set three the two teams started out close, tying it up six times before the Lions took an 8-6 lead on two straight kills. The two tied it up 16-16 before the Lions went on a run and won set three 25-20. Santa Clara hit .281 with 12 kills (3 e, 32 att.). LMU hit .351 with 18 kills (5 e, 37 att.).
In set four the two teams were tied 4-4 and then the Lions went on a 11-4 run to take a 15-9 lead. LMU won set four 25-15. Santa Clara hit .026 with 11 kills (10 e, 39 att.) LMU hit .364 with 13 kills (1 e, 33 att.).
