Santa Clara's Walk4Pancreatic Cancer on Sat., May 7 was a HUGE success with more than 300 walkers. Donations are still be counted, but they are expected to exceed more than $20,000. Photos from the event are available by clicking here.

Volleyball hosts Cal Poly Saturday and Pancreatic Cancer Walk!
Santa Clara finishes its spring season of competition on Sat., May 7 when it hosts Cal Poly at 10 am in the Leavey Center. The match is free and open to the public. Prior to hosting Cal Poly, the Santa Clara volleyball team will help host the third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Walk on the Mission Campus. Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 am and walk-ups are welcome and encouraged! The walk begins at the Leavey Center at 8:30 am. The volleyball team has raised over $55,000 in the last three years for cancer research and support.

Volleyball Continues Practice with Matches at USF Tournament Saturday
Splitting with UOP and Saint Mary’s before defeating Stanford 2-0 on April 14 in Palo Alto, Santa Clara will take the courts again this weekend in San Francisco to continue its Spring schedule of play. Santa Clara will play San Jose State, UC Davis, San Francisco State and Cal in the tournament hosted by USF.

Santa Clara head coach Jon Wallace announced this week that Alyssa Anderson has joined the Bronco volleyball team. Anderson is a sophomore transfer from Villanova University and is a Hermosa Beach, Calif. native.

Broncos Get Ready for Play at Stanford on Thursday
Santa Clara will play at Stanford on Thurs., April 14 as the Bronco volleyball team continues to play its spring volleyball schedule. Santa Clara will play two sets vs. Pacific and Saint Mary’s beginning at 6:30 pm (order hasn’t been set) and then finish the evening with Stanford at 8:30 pm. The matches will be two sets each to 25.

Santa Clara opens the spring volleyball season on Sat., April 9 at Pacific in a nine-team tournament in Stockton. This spring will feature a twist on competition due to new NCAA rules, but it’s one rule that won’t effect the Broncos much due to such strong volleyball competition in the Bay Area.

Bronco Volleyball Hosts Third Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer
Please join Santa Clara Bronco Athletics to walk in the Third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer. It is organized by Bronco head volleyball coach Jon Wallace and volleyball program along with the Morey/Mariani Family. All are invited, especially the Santa Clara Community! The walk has generated $66,000 in the last three years. All proceeds go to UCSF Pancreas Cancer Research.

Santa Clara Volleyball In The Gym Getting Better Every Day
The Santa Clara volleyball team may not start spring practice until March 28, but the Broncos have been working hard in the gym and the weight room this winter by focusing on strength and conditioning and individual training. Head coach Jon Wallace (JW), who enters his 13th year at Santa Clara in 2011, leading the team to the NCAA Tournament in 11 of those years, talks below about the month of January, the teams resolve to get better and gives some insight to the spring schedule.

SCU Lands Eight On WCC Fall All-Academic Teams; 11 More Earn Honorable Mention
The WCC Fall All-Academic teams were released today by the West Coast Conference and Santa Clara boasts 19 student-athletes on the list; eight divided amongst the teams and another 11 receiving honorable mention. Only one other school, Portland, placed more student-athletes on the conference’s all-academic lists than Santa Clara.

Schmidt Stands Out on the Court and in the Classroom
Santa Clara has had many super-star student-athletes walk across the Mission Campus over the years. The volleyball team has one of those currently in junior Tanya Schmidt. Named All-WCC First Team this past fall, Schmidt also stands out on the campus and in the classroom as a leader.

Three Broncos Named to All-WCC Volleyball Teams
Three Bronco volleyball players were named to the West Conference all-conference teams on Wednesday, including junior Tanya Schmidt, who was named to the All-WCC First Team. It is the 13th year in a row Santa Clara has had at least one person on the All-WCC First Team. Sophomores Dana Knudsen and Kaleigh Durket were both named to the WCC Honorable Mention list.

Volleyball Travels to USF for Last Match Friday
Santa Clara travels to San Francisco for its last volleyball match of the season vs. the Dons on Fri., Nov. 19 at 7 pm. Santa Clara will need some things to happen in the WCC, but with a win the Broncos will help themselves finish in fourth place.

Saint Mary's defeated Santa Clara in straight-sets, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-14 on Saturday night at McKeon Pavilion. Santa Clara will play its last match of the season at USF on Fri., Nov. 19 at 7 pm.

Volleyball Falls in Three at No. 18 San Diego
Santa Clara lost in three at No. 18 San Diego on Thursday night as USD stayed undefeated in WCC play with an 11-0 record. Game scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-8. The Broncos played without starter Kayla Lommori who is second on the team with 3.16 kpg. Lommori suffered an ankle sprain while warming up and is expected to be out the rest of the season.

Santa Clara’s volleyball hits the road this weekend with a tough task. First the Broncos play at No. 18 San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 11 at 7 pm and then they will play at Saint Mary’s on Sat., Nov. 13 at 7 pm. USD is in first place and Saint Mary’s holds down second place in the WCC.

On Bronco Volleyball Senior Day, its last home match of the season, Santa Clara defeated Portland 3-1. Game scores were 30-28, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-14. Santa Clara is 14-11 and 5-6 in the WCC. Portland is 10-17 and 3-8 in the WCC.

Volleyball Hosts Final Two Home Matches of the Year
Santa Clara volleyball plays its final two home matches this weekend. It hosts Gonzaga on Thurs., Nov. 4 at 7 pm and then Portland on Senior Day on Sat., Nov. 6 at 1 pm. Santa Clara will be celebrating four seniors on their day: Emily Burke, Alex Scoffone, Krista Kelley and Morgan Doherty. Scoffone has been unable to play the last two seasons and Kelley didn’t play this year, both due to injury.

The Santa Clara volleyball team fell 3-1 to LMU on Saturday in Los Angeles. Game scores were 25-21, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-15. Santa Clara is 12-10 and 3-6 in the WCC. LMU is 14-10 and 6-3 in the WCC.

The Santa Clara volleyball team, who has won three of its last five matches, will play at Pepperdine on Thurs., Oct. 28 at 7 pm and then at LMU on Sat., Oct. 30 at 1 pm. Santa Clara returns home next weekend to host its last two matches of the year, a 7 pm contest vs. Gonzaga on Thurs., Nov. 4 and then a 1 pm match vs. Portland on Sat., Nov. 6.

The Santa Clara volleyball team defeated rival San Francisco 3-1 on Friday night as the Broncos hosted DIG PINK! to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. Game scores were 25-11, 25-22, 25-27 and 25-17. Santa Clara is 12-9 and 3-4 in the WCC. USF is 3-17 and 1-6 in the WCC.

The Santa Clara volleyball team will host DIG PINK on Fri., Oct. 22 at 6 pm vs. rival USF. With Santa Clara wearing pink during the match, all proceeds collected from the DIG PINK match will be donated to a local Breast Cancer Care Center. Santa Clara is encouraging all fans to make a donation at the match at the Leavey Center on Friday; and of course, to wear pink!

Fresh off a 2-0 road weekend, Santa Clara, 11-7 and 2-2 in the WCC, returns home to host two of three teams in the WCC on the volleyball court. Santa Clara will host defending league champion Saint Mary’s, 10-6 and 2-1 in the WCC, on Thurs., Oct. 14 at 7 pm in the Leavey Center. No. 23 San Diego, currently in first place of the WCC standings, rolls into town on Sat., Oct. 16 for a 1 pm tilt with the Broncos.

Santa Clara University’s volleyball team has started the 2010 season strong despite injuries at key positions. This is largely due to the play and leadership of junior captain from San Jose, Bridget O’Hara , who leads the Broncos with 166 digs as of September 13.

Knudsen Named WCC Player of the Week
Santa Clara sophomore middle blocker Dana Knudsen, a 6-3 native of Elk Grove, Calif., was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She hit a combined .527 last weekend as the Broncos posted a 2-1 record at the Santa Clara Invitational.

Playing in the final match of Pacific’s Bankers Classic, Santa Clara, playing its third match in four nights, fell 3-2 at Pacific on Saturday night. Since the Bankers Classic's inception in 1979, Pacific has won 17 of the tournament's 32 championships. Game scores were 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25 and 9-15.

Santa Clara, led by the balanced attack of sophomore Kayla Lommori’s match-high 16 kills, collected a 3-0 win at Sacramento State Wednesday night in its first match of three to be played in the next four days. Santa Clara is 3-1 and Sac State moves to 2-2.

Santa Clara posted a 2-0 record on Saturday in its final day of play at the Fresno State Classic with a 3-1 win over host-Fresno State and a 3-2 come-from-behind win over UC-Riverside. Santa Clara is 2-1 on the young season and plays at Sacramento State on Wed., Sept. 1 before playing Idaho and Pacific in Stockton next weekend.
