Santa Clara Tabbed Fourth in WCC Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll

Aug. 4, 2009

Santa Clara, winners of five WCC titles, including the 2005 and '07 crowns, were picked fourth in the 2009 West Coast Conference coaches preseason poll. In addition, senior outside hitter Lindsy Davigeadono was named to the WCC coaches preseason all-conference team. Santa Clara opens its 2009 home season with a 7 pm match vs. Arizona on Thurs., Sept. 10 prior to playing Utah at 7 pm on Sat., Sept. 12.

The Broncos, who finished the 2008 season with a No. 25 final national ranking, return three starters from last year's squad who made it to the second of the NCAA Tournament - the only one of the five WCC teams to advance out of the first round. Santa Clara had the top-ranked recruiting class in the WCC this season as well with a No. 11 national ranking, signing six outstanding recruits.

The Broncos are highlighted by Davigeadono, who worked as the setter last season, hitting double-figure assists in each match and earning All-WCC honorable mention honors.

San Diego was picked to win the crown (see complete poll below).

The WCC experienced tremendous success last season as it sent five teams to the NCAA Tournament, which was the highest percentage of teams to make it from any conference. The league also finished fourth in the NCAA RPI rankings, to tie for it's highest ever finish.
