SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara volleyball team will compete in four spring exhibition tournaments beginning on April 12 at San Francisco and concluding on May 3 at the SCU Spring Tournament in Santa Clara. During the month, the Broncos will also travel to Sacramento State and Loyola Marymount for single day invitationals.
SCU opens spring play on Saturday, April 12 at the USF Spring Tournament. Santa Clara will start the day with a 9:30 a.m. match against West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's. The Broncos will then look for revenge against the Cardinal of Stanford in an 11:30 a.m. rematch of the 2007 NCAA Tournament first round battle. After lunch, SCU will face host USF at 1:30 p.m. The Broncos then bring the day to a close with a 2:30 p.m. first serve against Sonoma State.
The following Saturday, Santa Clara travels to the state capital for the Sacramento State Spring Tournament. The tournament pool includes: UC Davis, Pacific, St. Mary's, Cal Poly, Nevada-Reno, USF, Sonoma State, Santa Clara, Sacramento State and a combined team of members from California and San Jose State. Specific opponents and times have not been announced.
On April 26, the Broncos visit the league rival Lions of LMU for an all day tournament. CSU Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego, Long Beach State, UNLV, UC Riverside and UC Irvine will also compete at the event. Specific opponents and times have not been announced.
The Broncos then conclude spring exhibition action on Saturday, May 3 on the Mission Campus. The SCU Spring Invitational will feature five teams playing on two courts. Santa Clara opens the day with Kansas State at 9:30 a.m., and then battles USF at 10:30 a.m. The Broncos will face the Cardinal once more with a 1:30 p.m. first serve and then finish out the day against Cal Poly.
