Colorado Springs, Colo. - After leading No. 17 Santa Clara University (6-0) to the Bronco Invitational title this past weekend, senior Cassie Perret was tabbed as the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week (9/12).
The host Broncos beat then- No. 15 Arizona and then-No. 18 UC Santa Barbara en route to a 3-0 mark over the three-day tournament and Perret played a large role in her team's success. The outside hitter averaged 4.70 points, 4.10 kills, 2.10 digs, and 1.20 blocks per game while hitting at a stellar .415 clip over the weekend.
Perret compiled 13 kills, five blocks and six digs while hitting .393 versus Fresno State. She attacked at a .467 mark with a double-double of 18 kills, 10 digs and four blocks in a four-game win over Arizona. Perret finished the week with 10 kills, five digs and three blocks in a sweep of UCSB.
For her efforts, the Menlo Park, Calif. native was voted as the MVP of the tournament and was also named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week (9/12). Perret is the first Bronco to be named a Sports Import/AVCA National Player of the Week.
Santa Clara returns to action this weekend when the Broncos visit Salt Lake City, Utah to partake in the Utah Tournament. On September 16, SCU will take on Idaho at 6 P.M. and then on September 18, the Broncos will play host Utah at 6 P.M. All times listed are Pacific Standard Time.
