SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara Department of Athletics and Recreation has named Will Yuen an assistant coach for the volleyball program, head coach Jon Wallace announced today.
Yuen, a Sunnyvale, Calif. native, will join the Broncos staff in a volunteer capacity for the 2005 season. His main duties as a coach will be to run the team's DataVolley program in addition to breaking down film on the team and its opponents.
"I'm real excited to have Will on board," said Wallace. "His skills and experience in coaching will help strengthen both the girls and our team on the court."
Yuen comes to the Broncos from Archbishop Mitty High School in Sunnyvale, where since 2000 he has served the prestigious Monarchs volleyball program as head coach of the girls' junior varsity team. Upon the end of the junior varsity season, Yuen served the girls' varsity team as an assistant coach during their three CIF State Championship title runs.
Since January 2004, Yuen has also held the position of head coach of the Mitty boys' volleyball team, guiding the Monarchs to their first Central Coast Section playoff appearance in four seasons.
"I feel privileged to join such a prominent program and experienced staff," said Yuen. "I look forward to contributing to the Broncos continued success in the 2005 season."
Since 1997, Yuen has coached on the club level, including the last six seasons with the Vision Volleyball Club. Currently he is the head coach of Vision's 15 Gold team, and in 2004 led the squad to a fifth-place finish at the Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas.
Yuen is a 2000 graduate of San Jose State University.
