SANTA CLARA, Calif. -
Santa Clara University head volleyball coach Jon Wallace announced the team's spring schedule Tuesday morning which includes two tournaments and two single matches beginning this weekend.
The Broncos will begin their spring schedule on Saturday, April 12 at a tournament hosted by Cal State Bakersfield in Bakersfield, Calif. The all day tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. for Santa Clara.
Following the CSUB tournament, the Broncos will take on the 2002 National runners-up, Stanford Cardinal, in a match scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. on the Stanford campus.
On Friday, April 25, the Broncos will welcome the University of Nevada-Reno to the Leavey Center for a match that is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Following that game the Broncos and Wolfpack will both participate in the Santa Clara Tournament that will take place the following day in the Leavey Center.
The Broncos will play host to the six-team tournament that will run all day long and begins at 8:30 a.m. In addition to Santa Clara and Nevada the other participating teams include Oregon, Pacific, Sacramento State and San Jose State.
"We are entering the spring season a little beat up but do have definite goals that we want to accomplish," said Wallace. "We have a few players returning that need these games to get back into midseason playing form. We also have some new players and some returning players that just need time on the court to get to know each other's style of play. We will use this time to develop our individual skills and team cohesiveness."
Wallace guided the 2002 team to the second most wins in school history as the team ended the year with 24 wins against only seven losses. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year and were ranked in the AVCA Coaches' Poll for all 17 weeks. The Broncos climbed as high as No. 11, attaining a program high on November 4, 2002.
