SANTA CLARA, Calif. -
The Santa Clara volleyball team, coming off a 21-11 season which ended with an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, opens the 2000 season on Fri., Sept. 1 against Louisiana State at Colorado University's Tournament in Boulder, Colo.
That Tournament will also feature host Colorado University and Central Florida, with the Championship match being played on Sept. 3. The Lady Broncos will also travel to tournaments hosted by Arizona, North Carolina and Fresno State. The squad will also travel for individual contests at Pacific, Sacramento State, Gonzaga, Portland and San Francisco before returning to Santa Clara.
The Broncos' home opener will take place Oct. 8 vs. George Mason University. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the Pat Malley Center, the team's temporary home while Leavey Event Center is under construction.
Home contests include West Coast rivals St. Marys, San Diego, Portland, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. California will be the lone non-conference opponent on the home schedule, arriving Tues., Nov. 7.
Also on the schedule are six teams that were ranked in the final USA Today/AVCA Poll: Pacific, Arizona, North Carolina, San Diego, Pepperdine and Stanford.
Santa Clara closes the regular season in November at 1999 NCAA runner-up Stanford, on Tues., Nov. 21, before preparing for a possible berth in the national tournament.
