SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman Janalle Kaloi led the Santa Clara University women's tennis team in the West Coast Conference post-season awards, the league announced today.

Kaloi, a 5-7 right-hander from Honolulu, earned the Bronco program's first WCC Freshman of the Year award. She shares this year's league honor with Veronica Koksova of Pepperdine. Kaloi also earned honorable mention doubles honors with junior teammate Mariko Kawakami, a 5-5 right-hander from Seattle, Wash. In singles action, Santa Clara was honored by junior Christine Limbers' selection to the honorable mention squad.

Kaloi finished her rookie campaign with 20 singles victories, tied for fouth best in SCU single season records. She went 13-10 during the dual season, seeing most of her action in the second position. In February, she was named the WCC's Singles Player of the Month after posting a 6-1 record, with her only loss coming at nationally-ranked Nevada. During February, she defeated regional opponents from Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, Northern Arizona and Sacramento State in straight sets. Her win against the Gauchos and the Lumberjacks were both by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Kaloi also added a solid come-from-behind victory over Caroline Tweeton of San Francisco, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Kaloi and Kawakami went 10-6 overall, including a 6-2 in conference action. In February and March, the pair was named the WCC's Doubles Team of the Month. The duo earned their first league honors after going 3-2 during February, going 2-1 at the top spot and 1-1 at the No. 2 doubles. The tandem topped teams from UC Santa Barbara, USF and Northern Arizona. Both losses came in extra sets, 9-7 scores to UNLV and Sacramento State.

March began with an 8-5 win over Saint Mary's at No. 1 doubles, and also included victories over San Jose State, St. Louis and Loyola Marymount. The duo never ceded more than five games in any match during the month and posted a 4-1 record.

Limbers, a 5-6 junior from Carefree, Ariz., led the Broncos all season at the No. 1 position, going 17-14 overall. She notched two victories over ranked opponents during the year, including Saturday's three-set win over LMU's Edit Pakay.

All of the honors Kaloi, Kawakami and Limbers received this season were the first in their careers.
