SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team fell to Loyola Marymount in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Championships, this afternoon at the SCU Tennis Center. With the loss, the Broncos' record moves to 13-9 on the season. The Lions improve to 13-10. The Broncos-seeded third-will play fifth-seed Portland for third place Sunday at noon. The Pilots fell to top-seeded Pepperdine in the other semifinal. The Lions advance to the Championship match and will play the Waves for the league title at 1:30 p.m. LMU earned the first point of the match with a sweep in doubles play, led by the top tandem of Andrea Lord and Angelina Zdorovytska, who posted an 8-4 victory over Broncos Christine Limbers and Nicole McCord. In singles action, Limbers avoided the team sweep with her 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over 118th-ranked Edit Pakay on the top singles court. On the fifth court, junior Bronco Pati Ruiz held off nine match points before falling to Julie Hladik in the super-tiebreaker. "Christine earned a huge win today," Bronco head coach Aby Ryan said. "She was up and down through the match, but finished strong and was doing things we've been working on all year. And Pati played great, too. She really fought and that game could have gone either way." Please visit Tournament Central for complete WCC Championship coverage.
