First Season

Pati Ruiz joins the coaching staff this season, following an outstanding four-year playing career at Santa Clara. She will assist the women's program in practice plans, game-day coaching, fundraising and volunteer programs.

"We're elated to have Pati join our coaching staff," interim head coach Tricia Guidace said. "While at Santa Clara, Pati gained the respect of her peers through her hard work and calm demeanor. She clearly led by example and our players will greatly learn from her continued Bronco experience and contributions this season."

During her tenure as a Bronco, Ruiz captured 52 singles and 43 doubles victories, with both marks placing her in SCU recordbooks--fourth all-time in singles victories and ninth in doubles.

"It's great to have the opportunity to be part of the team again," Ruiz said. "I am excited to work with the coaches and a very talented group of girls."

At Bishop's School in La Jolla, Ruiz was twice voted her team's most valuable player, as Bishop's captured consecutive California Interscholastic Federation titles in 1997 and '98.

Ruiz earned her bachelor's degree in operations management and information systems in 2003, while also receiving a minor in Spanish Studies. She also teaches computer science, Spanish and integrated language arts at Sacred Heart Nativity School in downtown San Jose. A native of Chula Vista, Calif., Ruiz is engaged and resides in Santa Clara.
