BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis finished the second day of competition at the Cal Nike Invitational on Saturday in Berkeley, California. Freshman Caitlyn Frankel and junior Giannina Ong won their doubles matchup and their respective singles matches on Saturday.
In the White doubles consolation semifinal, Frankel and Ong defeated Amber DelRosario and Sarina Chhabra (San Francisco, 8-7 (5). Senior Nabila Farah and junior Zeina El Tawil came up short in the Gold doubles quarterfinal, falling, 8-4, to Pari Kaur and Vanessa Nommenson (St. Mary's). In the other White semifinal, freshman Caraline Patterson and sophomore Elizabeth Stephens lost, 8-3, to Demi Daniels and Taylah Beckman (BYU).
Ong was also successful in singles play, knocking off Claire Bouquet (Cal Poly, 6-2; 7-6, in the White singles consolation quarterfinal. El Tawil also earned a victory in the Gold consolation quarterfinal, defeating Sofia Gulnova (Sacramento State), 6-0 (retired due to injury). The Broncos recorded two more singles wins in the consolation round robin play. Frankel bested Kyla Jarrar (Santa Barbara), 6-2; 6-1, and Patterson won, 6-2; 7-5, over Jessica Kaye (Pacific).
