SANTA CLARA, Calif.—After a 5-2 loss to No. 48 SMU on March 13, the Santa Clara women's tennis team hosts its second West Coast Conference match on Sat., March 23 against Brigham Young University at 11:00 a.m. in the Degheri Tennis Center.
The Broncos (5-5; 1-0 WCC) took a week and a half break from all competition in order to focus on finals week on the Mission Campus. Last season, Santa Clara topped BYU, 4-3. The Broncos look to go 2-0 in the WCC with a win over the Cougars Saturday.
No. 48 SMU broke the Broncos three-match winning streak last Wednesday. On singles side against the Mustangs, Santa Clara's two points came from dominating two-set wins from freshman Chelby Cooke and sophomore Stephanie Skaras. In addition, No. 32 Katie Le was upset for the fourth time this dual season by Aleks Malyarchikova of the Mustangs at the No. 1 position.
The Cougars (7-5, 1-0 WCC) travel to California to play league opponents San Francisco on Friday and Santa Clara on Saturday. They face the Dons (6-5, 0-2 WCC) at 1 p.m. on Friday and the Gaels (5-5, 1-0 WCC) at noon on Saturday. BYU recently topped WCC opponent Portland by a score of 5-2.
