FLUSHING, N.Y. - After pulling off an upset over the nation's No. 26-ranked player in the first round, Santa Clara's Katie Le could not fend off Hanna Mar of Duke in the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Indoor Championships.
In the first round of the esteemed ITA Indoor Championships, Katie Le - currently ranked No. 41 in the country - knocked off No. 26 Zoe Dubrucker of North Carolina.
On Friday, Le battled No. 35 Hanna Mar of Duke in the second round. Mar took control early and bested Le 6-1, 6-1. Le dropped to 5-3 during the fall season. However, she has two losses to players ranked in the top-35, including a loss to the nation's No. 5 ranked player.
Le is the first Santa Clara women's tennis player to receive a bid to the ITA Indoor championships. Addidtionally, last season Le was the first player to receive an individual bid to the NCAA singles championships. During her two previous seasons Le has amassed a total of 41 wins. She was tabbed as the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 2010-11 and last year was First Team All-WCC. During her two previous seasons Le has amassed a total of 41 wins.
