Santa Clara, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis fell to No. 38 Pepperdine by a score of 4-1 in the semifinal match of the West Coast Championships in San Diego, Calif. on Friday, April 27. Yesterday, the No. 5 seeded Broncos upset No. 4 LMU 4-0, but could not put away the No. 1 seed Waves.

In the regular season, Pepperdine beat Santa Clara 6-1.

"We played great against the No. 1 seed Pepperdine today, playing much tougher than the first time we competed against them in the regular season," said head coach Ben Cabell.

In the doubles competition, Katie Le and Jessica Agra put up a tough fight against ranked doubles duo No. 31 Khunpak Issara and Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine but fell by a close score of 8-6. The other two doubles partners from the Santa Clara team struggled to secure the doubles point from the Waves.

In singles competition, No. 49 Le went up against No. 63 of Issara at the No. 1 position. Issara defeated Le 6-3, 6-3. The lone point for the Broncos came from junior Alex Zaniewski at the No. 2 singles spot. Zaniewski beat Alejandra Granillo in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Two singles matches were not finished.

"Now we will wait and see if Katie Le gets selected for the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. She has a very good chance and the team and I are excited for her," said Cabell.
