No. 38 Le Named WCC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Month
Santa Clara, Calif.—The West Coast Conference announced Thursday that Santa Clara's Katie Le has been named WCC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Month for March. Le was named the WCC Freshman of the Year for the 2010-11 season and at No. 38 nationally, she currently holds the highest singles ranking for any WCC women's player. On the men's side, John Lamble and Ilya Osintsev were named the WCC Doubles Team of the Month for March as well.
No. 38 Le has been competing at the No. 1 singles position all season for the Broncos. The sophomore has only dropped two matches in the 2011-12 dual season—her last loss dating back to February 11 against Elizabeth Ullathorne of No. 22 Texas Tech. She holds an overall record of 13-2.
Since then, Le has been on an 11-match winning streak, beating her opponents in two straight sets every time. Le accomplished two notable wins when she beat No. 47 Marianne Jodoin of No. 49 Fresno State and No. 91 Khunpak Issara of No. 35 Pepperdine.
Le, a sophomore from Milpitas, Calif., is a major asset to the Broncos in both singles and doubles. With partner Jessica Agra, Le competes at the No. 1 position in doubles for Santa Clara as well as her singles play. Along with WCC Freshman of the Year last year, Le was also awarded Second Team All-WCC for her singles and doubles performances in the 2010-11 season.
Le and the rest of the Bronco women continue their season with a home match against New Mexico State on Thurs., Apr. 5 at 2:00 p.m. and on Sat., Apr. 7 at 9:30 a.m. when they travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to take on No. 6 Stanford.
