Women's Tennis Ends Fall Competition with ITA Regional Championships

Santa Clara, Calif.—Over the weekend, the Santa Clara women's tennis team sent all 10 players to the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Stanford, Calif. They battled against tough Pac-12 and WCC opponents with over a total of 120 women competing in the tournament. This was the last official competition of the Bronco's fall season.


In singles, Katie Le, the No. 12 seed in the tournament, had a bye in the first round. She then defeated Nicole Koehly of UC Davis 6-2, 6-0, University of Oregon's Julia Metzger 7-6 (3), 6-2, and Ellen Tsay of Stanford 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3) before dropping a tough match against the No. 2 seed Mallory Burdette of Stanford 6-3, 6-1. Le made it to the quarterfinal round and was very proud of her accomplishments over the weekend.


Le also completed in doubles with Jessica Agra, but they fell in the round of 64 to Chui/Heneghan from UC Davis 9-7.


In singles, Kelly Lamble, Alex Zaniewski and Agra all advanced to the second round.


Lamble and Maggie McGeorge advanced to the quarterfinal round in doubles defeating USF's Hashiguchi/McMahon 8-1 and the No. 4 seed from University of Washington, Dy/Gregoire 8-4. They came up short to Fournier/Musilovich from Washington State 8-6 in the quarterfinals.


In doubles, Kacie Wagner and Zaniewski beat Leduc/Searl of Saint Mary's 8-1 in the round of 32. They then dropped a tough match to the No. 3 seed Goransson/Schutting of Cal 8-3.


After putting up a strong fight against many of the top ranked players from the West Coast, the Bronco's look forward to a break in competition as they now begin preparing for the 2012 season, starting with winter matches at the end of January.
