Day One of SMC Fall Invite Results

Santa Clara, Calif.—The Bronco's women's tennis team finished the first day of competition at the SMC Fall Invitational yesterday Fri., Oct. 14th.

 

In the Red singles flight, Kelly Lamble defeated MilHadiz-Tanovic of the University of San Fransisco 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32. She then fell to the No. 1 tournament seed, Catherine Isip of Saint Mary's, 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16.

 

Katie Le competes in the Red singles quarterfinals today against Cal's Cessi Estlander. Le, the No. 3 seed, defeated Gonzaga's Kristina Zauere 6-1, 6-2. She also edged out Ana Chkhkivishvili of Saint Mary's by a scored 6-1, 6-1.

 

Alex Zaniewski defeated Erica Medlin of San Jose State 6-2, 6-1. She then fell to the No. 2 seed, Jenny Julian of Saint Mary's, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.

 

In the White singles flight, Carolina O'Haren was edged out by San Jose State's Isadora Busch by a score of 7-6 (3), 6-1. Brittany Warly fell to Brooke McBride of Sonoma State 6-3, 6-3. Chau Truong of San Jose State 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, defeated Kimmi Cox. Jessie Agra had to stop her match due to injury in the first round.

 

Charlotte Newell competes in the Blue singles championship match today at 1 p.m. She defeated Sonoma State's Lauren Ho 6-1, 6-1. In her next match, she defeated Jobeth Pasquel of Dominican. 6-0, 6-0, to make it to the final round. She will play against Emily Prescott of San Jose State in the championship.

 

In the Red doubles flight, Le/Agra fell to the No. 4 seed, Isip/Chkhkivishvili of Saint Mary's, 8-2. Lamble/Zaniewski also fell to the No. 3 seed, Cal's Estlander/Susanyi, 8-5.

 

In the White doubles flight, No. 1 seed Warly/Cox defeated Truong/Willet from San Jose State 8-0. O'Haren/Newell beat McBride/Ho from Sonoma State 8-2.
