Santa Clara, Calif.—Over the past week, No. 86 Katie Le has traveled back and forth from the Mission Campus to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying matches.
On Oct 1, Le played against Krista Damico from No. 23 Texas in the first round of 64. Le came out on top, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Advancing to the round of 32, Le swept her competitor from No. 8 Georgia, Lauren Herring, 6-1, 6-1.
On Oct. 2, Le played Patricia Veresova from No. 43 Nebraska. Once again, Le beat her competitor in two sets: 6-3, 6-4. This win qualified her to play again on Oct. 4 at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
She then flew back to Santa Clara on Sunday night to attend her four classes on Monday. After class, Le got back on a plane to play in more qualifying matches on Tuesday.
Her first competitor, Jackie Wu, was from Vanderbilt University. Le dominated and won 6-4, 6-3.
Her All-American run ended there.
Her second match of the day was against the No. 3 seed in the tournament, Anna Bartenstein of Miami. Le was defeated by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
"Katie did awesome and we were thrilled with her performance. She won very tough matches against the top 20 players in the country. With the amount of traveling we did over a short period and having four classes on Monday, I was extremely proud of her," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "She has set herself up very nicely for the rest of season. It was a real honor for Santa Clara to have a player go that far in the All-American tournament."
