Santa Clara, Calif.— The Bronco women's tennis team travels to UC Berkeley this weekend, Sept. 30th through Oct. 2nd, to compete in the Cal Nike Invitational at the Hellman Tennis Complex for both singles and doubles matches.
In addition to the Cal Nike Invitational, No. 86 Katie Le and Jessie Agra will be traveling down to Los Angles, Calif. this weekend for the ITA All American Pre-Qualifying taking place on the UCLA campus. Matches will take place all day on Friday, Sept. 30th through Sunday, Oct. 2nd.
Head coach Ben Cabell comments, "This weekend is a big weekend for us. We are very excited to get the season started. It is a great honor for us to have Agra and Le going down to the prestigious All American Tournament in Los Angeles. It's the first time in at least eight years that we've had players competing in singles and doubles. We know that they will do very well down there."
The Cal Nike Invitational is a large tournament with three singles flights and three doubles flights (Gold, Blue, and White). Many of the top ranked players from the West Coast will be competing.
Kacie Wagner is ranked No. 3 in the tournament for singles. Kelly Lamble, Kimmy Cox, Maggie McGeorge, Carolina O'Haren, Alex Zaniewski, Charlotte Newell and Brittany Warly will also all be competing in singles. In doubles, McGeorge/Lamble, Warly/Cox, O'Haren/Newell and Zaniewski/Wagner, the No. 2 in doubles for the tournament, will all be competing.
Matches will begin at 8am on Fri., Sept. 30th. The Championships matches will be played during the afternoon on Sun., Oct. 2nd.
"We are excited coming off of a successful season last year and are looking forward to getting some matches under our belt. This weekend will allow us to see what we need to work on," says Cabell.
