Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 to No. 75 Cal Poly

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis fell, 6-1, to No. 75 Cal Poly at the Degheri Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Courtney Hull earned the Broncos lone point on the day. Hull defeated the Mustangs Steffi Wong in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 5 singles position.
Seeing career firsts were freshmen Kimmi Cox and Isabelle Hoy, who both saw action in today's contest. Cox partnered with sophomore Carmen Pham at the No. 3 doubles spot, where the pair were edged, 8-6, by Cal Poly's Maria Malec and Diane Filip. In singles, Hoy played at the No. 6 singles position. She fell to Filip, 6-4, 6-2.
"I am proud of the way we played," said head coach Ben Cabell. "Cal Poly is a tough nationally ranked team. They presented a good test for us and will help our young team in the development of the program."
SCU returns to the courts on Friday, January 30, when they go on their first road trip of the season to Davis, Calif. The Broncos will take on UC Davis at 1:30 p.m.
