April 14, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon the Santa Clara women's tennis team took on the San Francisco Dons for the team's final WCC regular season match-up and Senior Day ceremony. Myra Davoudi, Lindsay McBride, and their parents were honored at the match. Despite the spirit of the day, the Broncos could not overcome the Dons, falling 5-2 in very tight matches.

In doubles action, the matches were as close as they could be. Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride, playing at the No. 2 spot, forced a long match and fought hard, but could not overcome USF's Sarah Oudomvilay and No. 66 Jenni Heinser, falling 9-8. It was the same story at No. 3 doubles with SCU's Carmen Pham and Courtney Hull, who lengthened the match but got edged out by USF's Emma Taylor and Jenny Sperry, 9-7.

McBride and Ashley Pane earned the Broncos' points in singles action. Davoudi faced USF's Emma Taylor and came out victoriously, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Later on at No. 5 singles, freshman Pane matched up against USF's Oudomvilay, defeating her 6-2, 6-2. Davoudi and Courtney Hull also played strong opponents, but were unable to come out on top.
