Moraga, Calif. - On the final day of action at the Saint Mary's College Invitational, freshman Stephanie Herrmann won both her matches to capture the singles consolation crown in the Red Division. In the semifinals, she was leading her opponent Dunya Stakovic of Saint Mary's 5-4 in the first set when Stakovic retired due to an injury. Later in the day, the Los Altos Hills, Calif. Native defeated Jenna Kappel of UC Davis 7-6, 6-2 to finish the tournament on a high note.
"I'm really proud of Stephanie Herrmann," said head coach Damon Coupe. "She had a great tournament and beat some girls where she was the underdog. She took the other players out of their rhythm and was able to use her strengths to her advantage in her victories."
In other action on the court, Kim Daniel fell in her attempt to reach the finals of the main draw in the Red Division, falling to Pichaya Laosirichon of San Francisco 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the semi-final round. In the doubles consolation draw of the Blue Division, Myra Davoudi and Stephanie Galainena fell 8-4 to Sarah Oudomvilay and Laosirichon of San Francisco.
The Broncos return to action next weekend, when they head to Stanford University to compete in the ITA Regional Tournament.
