Santa Clara, Calif. - After canceling last weekend's match with West Coast Conference foe Loyola Marymount due to weather conditions, Santa Clara women's tennis head coach Damon Coupe wanted to fill in that gap in his schedule. Apparently, that hole has been sufficiently patched, as Santa Clara has added No. 9 California to its 2006 schedule to replace the lost match with Loyola Marymount. Game time is schedule for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24 up in Berkeley, Calif.
"We're really excited to play California. This is probably one of their best squads they've had in years," stated a thrilled Coupe. "It's a good opportunity for us to compete against the nation's best and really evaluate ourselves to see what top-level tennis is about."
Santa Clara currently owns an overall record of 5-8 in 2006, after recently defeating South Bay rival San Jose State 4-3. After California, Santa Clara will travel to Sacramento, Calif. to face Sacramento State on Saturday, followed by a Sunday home match against Eastern Washington on Sunday.
