SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team defeated No. 75 UC Riverside 6-1 this afternoon at the SCU Tennis Center. The Broncos' record is now 2-3, while the Highlanders record falls to 3-2.

Santa Clara swept doubles play and earned its second doubles point in as many matches. Junior Catherine Cochrane and sophomore Casey Knutson led the team at No. 1 doubles, earning a 9-8 victory over the Highlanders' Michelle Beyronneau and Casey Cross.

In singles action, Santa Clara won on courts two through five. After the team victory had been secured, UC Riverside avoided the shut out with Beyronneau's victory at No. 1 singles in a super tie-break, 6-7, 7-2, (11-9) over junior Janalle Kaloi.

"This was a great win," head coach Tricia Guidace said. "We knew UCR had some solid victories and would be a challenge. Our players were mentally tough and stayed in every point; every team member contributed. This win is a great way to head into our first road trip."

The Broncos will play two matches next weekend in Portland, taking on Wyoming on Saturday and Portland on Sunday. Both matches will have first serves at 10 a.m.
