Softball Adds One More to Class of 2010

May 1, 2006

Santa Clara, Calif. - Breann Netto recently signed a National Letter of Intent to compete and study at Santa Clara University during the 2006-07 academic year, announced softball head coach Steve Rianda. Netto will join five other players who committed to the Broncos in the fall: Emily Batt, Jennifer Clarke, Ashley Grove, Alyc Kalamaha, and Lauren Passafuime.

"We are pleased to announce that Breann Netto has signed a NLI to compete for Santa Clara for next year. Breann is an extremely talented middle infielder," said Rianda on his newest prospect. "We are very excited to have Breann join the team. Her athletic ability and personality is exactly what we are looking for as we build our program."

Netto hails from Fresno, Calif. where she lettered in both soccer and softball for San Joaquin Memorial High School in her prep career. In 2005, the pitcher/first baseman led her school to a North Yosemite League title and she was named the NYL Player of the Year and Best Offensive Player of the Year for her efforts. In 2006, Netto was a California Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year selection, in addition to being nominated for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award, an honor bestowed upon the nation's top high school senior men and women for excellent in academics, athletics, and community/school involvement. Netto also earned a host of awards on the soccer field, including being a First Team All-NYL selection in 2005.

Santa Clara is currently 20-32 on the year, with a 7-9 mark in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, and will return to action tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader against host Oregon. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled to go out at 1 p.m.
