April 20, 2008

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Santa Clara (9-40, 5-7 PCSC) went 1-1 in Sunday's double-header against San Diego (16-32, 3-9 PCSC) to split the weekend series against the Toreros. The Broncos fell 5-3 in the first game of the day, before Noelani Ho'opi'i drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win the second game 1-0.

In the first game of the double-header, Jackie Morales (5-16) threw a complete game, giving up 14 hits over seven innings, allowing five runs, four earned, with two strikeouts.

With the game tied up at 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, Santa Clara scored one run to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead. But San Diego came back with two runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead and added another insurance run in the seventh. Santa Clara was unable to bring anyone across and took a 5-3 loss.

In the second game, Kaitlyn Rauschnot (2-10) earned her second victory of the weekend, a complete game shutout. Rauschnot held the Toreros to just six hits in the game. Offensively the Broncos had nine hits, including Ho'opi'i's 3-for-4 day with the game winning, walkoff single.
