SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A six-run inning by Cal State Bakersfield (16-18) capitalized their comeback over Santa Clara (4-33) in the second game of a double-header on Tuesday. The loss makes 13 straight for the Broncos who start league play this weekend.

Freshmen Jackie Nicora blasted the first homerun of her collegiate career and Amanda Edmonson went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Broncos took a quick lead with a four-run second inning when Jackie Morales knocked an RBI double, Nicora had a sacrifice fly, and Jeanine Ruffoni hit a shot to the shortstop who failed to throw home in time.

Then after both teams scored one run in the fourth, Bakersfield exploded with six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead. The Roadrunners had five hits in the inning, including a three-run homerun by Kelli Bailey.

Santa Clara tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on and one out, but back-to-back outs ended the game.

Morales threw all seven innings after pitching the final 1.1 innings of the game before. She gave up seven runs, six earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts.

The Broncos start conference play this weekend when they head to Los Angeles to take on Loyola-Marymount on Saturday and Sunday, both double-headers starting at noon.
