SCU Softball Takes Loss to UIC Before Rain Stops Play at Capital Classic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rain continues to cause cancellations at the Capital Classic softball tournament in Sacramento. Santa Clara's morning game against Illinois-Chicago was halted after five innings and will go down as an 8-2 victory for UIC. Santa Clara (4-10) had its first two games of the tournament cancelled on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, Jackie Nicora homered and Briana Knight drove in a run before a rain delay stopped play with SCU down six after five innings. With no break in the weather in sight, the game was called and it went down as official since five innings were completed.

UIC (8-12) scored in each of the first three innings, scoring five times on eight hits off Bronco freshman starter Jessica Turner, whose record moves to 1-7. The top of the order for UIC (Melinda Macias and Carly Demarco) combined to go 5 for 5 and score six runs.

Tournament host Sacramento State has cancelled the rest of Saturday's schedule.
