Santa Clara, Calif. -- The Santa Clara softball team added four new members to their 2008-09 squad recently with the signings of Brooke Downs, Briana Knight, Christine Prochnow, and Catherine Surane to national letters of intent.
Pitcher and shortstop Brooke Downs comes From Liberty Christian in Redding, Calif. In her junior season last year, she threw 13 complete games for 13 wins, notching a .156 ERA, and striking out 150 batters in 90 innings. When at the plate, Downs batted .705 with three home runs, a .743 OBP, and a slugging percentage of 1.361. On the base paths she was 35 for 35 on steal attempts.
Brianna Knight is an outfielder and utility player from Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, Calif. In 20 games for the Mustangs, Knight batted .302 with an OBP of .339 and a slugging of .566.
Christine Prochnow is an outfielder hailing from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita. The four year varsity starter was named Trinity All-League in 2007 and batted .397 that year with a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Catcher and outfielder Catherine Surane played her prep ball at La Riena High School in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Surane batted .433 in 21 games with an OBP of .463 and a .583 slugging percentage.
