SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Santa Clara (9-47, 5-11 PCSC) got shutout twice in Sunday's double-header against Sacramento State (28-19, 10-6 PCSC) 2-0 and 9-0 (5 innings).
In the first game, Jackie Morales (5-20) pitched another complete game, giving up nine hits and two runs, only one earned, en route to the loss as she got no help from the offense.
The Broncos managed just two hits in the game, both by Ashley Grove who went 2-for-3. The rest of the lineup went 0-for-27.
In the second game, Kaitlyn Rauschnot (2-11) started out on the mound and took the loss, giving up ten hits over 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs, but only two earned as the Broncos committed two costly errors in the third, which helped allow six runs to cross, making the score 7-0 after three innings of play.
Lauren Passafuime came in to pitch for Rauschnot and gave up two runs, lasting just 0.2 innings due to control problems and Morales came in to mop up, finishing out the final 1.2 innings of play with no hits allowed.
Down 9-0 in the fifth, Santa Clara needed at least two runs to continue the game and looked like they might as they got back-to-back hits by Ashley Blier and Morales with one out. Jenna Fong came in to pinch hit and loaded the bases as she reached on an error by the third baseman. But Nicole Picard struck out swinging and Breann Netto grounded out to end the game.
Besides the hits in the fifth inning, Noelani Ho'opi'i's single in the second inning was the Broncos only other hit.
Santa Clara will finish off their regular and conference season this coming weekend as they play two double-headers at home against Portland State, both starting at 12 p.m.
