Santa Clara Returns Home with Double-Header Against UC Riverside
March 25, 2008
Next Week Santa Clara (4-29) returns home Wednesday, March 26 for their second game at Marsalli Park where they will take on UC Riverside (12-18) in a double-header starting at 10 a.m. In their first home game of the season, the Broncos lost an extra-inning heartbreaker to Cal 7-5. Then Santa Clara will have one more home game on Tuesday, April 1 against Cal State Bakersfield (12-14), a double-header starting at 2 p.m. before starting league play next week.
Last Week This past week the Broncos were dealing with finals and did not have any games. The previous week, Santa Clara went 0-5 as they dropped two games against a tough Pacific team, and three against the top team in the country, Arizona State.
After being on the wrong end of a perfect game in their first meeting with Arizona State, Santa Clara bounced back in the first game of the double-header the next day. Although they lost the game 13-8, the eight runs scored by the Broncos were the most the top-ranked Sun Devils have given up all year long.
Maggie Godfrey knocked her fourth home run of the year out of the park in the aforementioned game against Arizona State, but it was no ordinary homerun. It was the first grand slam of her collegiate career and it topped off a five-run inning. It also extended her team leading RBI total to 15.
Ho'opi'i Leading the Way
Noelani Ho'opi'i extended her team leading batting average to .310 and leads the team in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and steals.
