Santa Clara will travel to Stockton, Calif. to take on Pacific in a double-header on Wednesday, March 12 starting at 1 p.m. Then the Broncos will head to Phoenix, Ariz. to play three games against Arizona State. The series starts off with a single game on Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by a double-header on Saturday beginning at noon.
This past weekend, Santa Clara took part in the difficult Fresno State Bulldog Challenge. The Broncos started things off on a good note as they defeated Rhode Island 5-1 as Jackie Morales charted her second win of the season. Then it was three straight games against ranked teams as Santa Clara fell to Houston 4-0 and DePaul 6-0 on Friday and Fresno State 8-0 on Saturday. The Broncos finished up the tournament against Cal Poly on Sunday, dropping the game 8-3.
Jackie Morales was Santa Clara's representative on the all-tournament team at Fresno State. Morales pitched a complete game, six strikeout game while notching three RBIs as well at the plate. In the second game against DePaul, Morales came in in relief in the first inning, finishing the game with just one earned run on eight hits in 6.1 innings. Against Cal Poly in the final game of the tournament, Morales went 3-for-3 offensively with an RBI.
For the third time this season, Maggie Godfrey has been the only thing standing between the opposing pitcher and a no-hitter. Godfrey recorded the team's only hit against Fresno State this weekend, marking the third time this year she has recorded the team's only hit.
With the no designated player rule in effect for two of the games this weekend, Maggie Godfrey took over at catcher and Amanda Edmonson moved to short. So far this year, the freshman Edmonson has played second, shortstop, and catcher.
