Santa Clara Falls to Cal Poly 8-3 to Finish Bulldog Classic

Fresno, Calif. - Santa Clara (4-24) lost to Cal Poly (8-11) to close out the Fresno State Bulldog Classic Sunday. Jackie Morales took the loss after pitching one inning, giving up four runs, but was 3-for-3 in the game offensively.
After the first inning, the score remained at 4-0 until the fourth inning, when Santa Clara got a ralley going. Jenna Fong led everything off with a one-out triple and was brought home on a Noelani Ho'opi'i single. Maggie Godfrey singled next, bringing Ho'opi'i to third and advancing to second on an error. Amanda Edmonson then brought then both home with a single up the middle.
However, later in the fourth, Cal Poly came back with three runs of their own on three hits of Lauren Passafuime who came in the game in relief of Morales in the second inning.
The Mustangs added one more run in the fifth, but the damage had been done as the Broncos were unable to bring anyone else in to score the rest of the game.
Along with Morales' 3-for-3 game with an RBI, Edmonson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ho'opi'i had the team's other RBI on a 1-for-3 game.
Passafuime gave up just five hits in her five innings of work, giving up four runs, all unearned.
Morales was named to the Bulldog Classic All-Tournament Team. She had one win on the weekend against Rhode Island, giving up just one run and offensively went 4-for-8 in three games.
Santa Clara next game will be Wednesday, March 12 where they will play a double header against Pacific starting at 1:00 p.m.
