Broncos Lose 8-0 to Fresno State in Five Innings

Fresno, Calif. - In their fourth game of the Bulldog Classic at Fresno State, Santa Clara fell 8-0 against No. 21/23 Fresno State in five innings. Jerrica Castagno (2-11) gave up four runs in the second inning on her way to the loss.
Fresno State jumped out on Santa Clara early with a run in the first inning on a wild pitch and kept the heat on with four hits that scored four runs in the second inning and knocked Castagno out of the game. Jackie Morales came in and closed down the inning with two groundouts.
Morales pitched the final 3.1 innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits.
Offensively for the Broncos, freshman Jenna Fong led the team, going 2-for-3 in the game. Santa Clara scattered three more hits by Amanda Edmonson, Megan Wirth, and Shelby Gibbs over the five innings, but were unable to bring anyone around to score.
The Broncos will finish off the Fresno State Bulldog Classic on Sunday, March 9 when they take on Cal Poly at 1:00 p.m.
