Feb. 16, 2008

Stanford, Calif.-- Santa Clara softball is still looking for their first win on the season after a 6-0 loss to Wichita State at the Stanford Invitational.

The Broncos scattered six hits over seven innings, but were not able to capitalize on any of their chances at scoring. Wichita State pounced on Santa Clara early with a four-run first inning and added two more over the next three innings which proved to be more than enough for the win.

Jerrica Castagno, playing in her first weekend of the year, lasted just one out into the second inning after giving up four runs on six hits. Kaitlyn Rauschnot relieved her, giving up two runs over the course of the game on six hits with three strikeouts.

Noelani Ho'opi'i went 2-2 and Maggie Godfrey continued her hit streak with a 1-3 outing. Shelby Gibbs, Meghan Chavez, and Jeanine Ruffoni all had hits on the game as well.

Brianna Smet of Wichita State threw the complete game, six hit shoutout against the Broncos, notching four strikeouts along the way.

Santa Clara will play the #1 seed today at 2 p.m.
