May 16, 2007
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University seniors Angela Kabanuck and Sara Overmier were both named All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference Second Team selections for their outstanding final seasons at SCU. Kabanuck was one of three outfielders on the second team, while Overmier made the squad as the designated player.
"We are very proud of both Sara and Angie," said softball head coach Steve Rianda. "Angie was a dominate offensive force this season and Sara really stepped up her play in conference. It is great for our seniors to go out with some well-deserved honors."
Kabanuck, a Petaluma, Calif. native, earned the distinction for the second straight season. She led the team in most offensive categories and was the only player on the team to start every game. Kabanuck led the team in batting (.377), home runs (10), RBIs (26), total bases (116), runs (29), on base percentage (.417) and stolen bases (18). Those numbers were also career highs for Kabanuck, who finished her career at SCU with a .301 average and 73 RBIs. In the league, she finished third in hitting, tied for first in slugging, eighth in on base percentage, third in hits (72), tied for second in doubles (14), second in home runs and first in total bases and steals.
Overmier also had a career year as a senior in 2007. After spending most of her career as a pitcher, Overmier played the outfield and served as the team's designated player, while still appearing in seven games on the mound. In all games, she finished third in batting average on the team (.274) and had four home runs, 16 RBIs, while posting a .353 on base percentage. The senior from San Andreas, Calif. did most of her damage at the plate in the conference season, leading SCU in hitting (.367), slugging (.612) and on base percentage (.412) along with tying for the home run lead with three. On the mound, she appeared seven times with one start for the Broncos.
