Santa Clara, Calif. - Practice for the upcoming softball season has not yet begun, but first-year head coach Steve Rianda is off to a busy start. He has organized two events that will raise money for the Santa Clara softball program.
All friends, family and sponsors of the SCU softball program are encouraged to sign-up for either or both of the fundraisers, as all proceeds will go towards helping the Broncos compete for a Pacific Coast Softball Conference title this spring.
"The team and I are excited to get our fundraising programs started. These are new events for this team which I know will do well," said Rianda. "We want to get the softball name out to the community, alumni and friends. The goal is help raise funds for equipment, travel, and other operational needs, but we also really want people excited about the team and come help support us during the season."
The inaugural "Softball Night at the Races" will take place on Friday, October 14 at the Bay Meadows Race Course. The night of festivities will begin when the gates open at 5:30 p.m. A delicious buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., just before the first scheduled race at 7 p.m. The price per person is $45 ($25 for children) and includes entrance to the Turf Club with private, enclosed seating and panoramic viewing, gourmet buffet dinner, race program and a parking pass. Reservations are due by October 7.
The inaugural SCU Women's Golf Tournament will be the second fundraiser for the softball team this fall and will be played at the San Jose Municipal Golf Course on Sunday, November 14. Check-in will promptly begin at 10 a.m. with tee-time an hour later. The entry fee is $125, which includes green fee, tournament fee, golf cart, lunch, tee prizes and a tri-tip dinner. A silent sports memorabilia auction will also be conducted. For tee sponsorship information, the fee is $100 and please enclose all desired tee sponsor information. The last day to sign up for the tournament will be Saturday, November 13.
