SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University head softball coach Marcy Crouch added a third standout to this year's signing class, inking third baseman Ashley Blier of Woodinville, Wash. The infielder signed her National Letter of Intent during last week's early signing period and joins two Northern California players that Crouch also signed: Jerrica Castagno of Redwood City and Maggie Godfrey of San Lorenzo.
Blier is a two-time All-Kingco League honoree at Redmond High School, where she is coached by Tami Storseth Mahler. As a sophomore, Blier was named the team's MVP, while earning Most Inspirational honors as a junior.
Blier participates on a travel team, the LadyHawks Gold, where she is coached by her father, Roger Blier. The LadyHawks Gold placed 17th in the 2003 ASA Gold Nationals.
"Ashley is a great addition to our roster for next season," Crouch said. "She has a great work-ethic, a positive attitude and comes from the best travel team in Washington."
Santa Clara will open the 2004 season at a tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara January 30-February1. The Broncos will open against Oregon State and play the host Gauchos later that afternoon. Santa Clara will also play Long Beach State and Illinois-Chicago at the tournament.
