Softball Falls in Stanford Doubleheader

Nov. 13, 2003

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team dropped two games to Stanford in a doubleheader this afternoon at the host Cardinal's Boyd & Jill Smith Family.

Liz Courter took the loss in the first game, allowing two runs. The Broncos rallied in the top of the seventh, when Jessica Clee doubled to open the frame. Kelley Johnson doubled to bring Clee home for Santa Clara's only score of the contest. Sara Overmier pitched two scoreless innings to close the game.

In the nightcap, Jaime Forman-Lau allowed five runs in the first inning, and then struck out 13 of the next 15 batters to close the game. Jenny Brown had two hits for the Broncos in that contest.

"These games help show us that we can play with the best teams," head coach Marcy Crouch said. "Now we need to take that next step and really push to finish these games off and earn the win."

Santa Clara will open the 2004 season at a tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara January 30-February1. The Broncos will open against Oregon State and play the host Gauchos later that afternoon. Santa Clara will also play Long Beach State and Illinois-Chicago at the tournament.
