Softball Wins Two Fall Games

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team defeated Sacramento City 4-3 and Stanford 2-1 in fall action this evening at the host Cardinal's Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.

Down 1-0 against Stanford, Vanessa Werner hit a bunt single with one out in the seventh inning. Sophomore Jenny Brown followed with a home run to lead the Broncos to victory.

Against Sacramento City, pitchers Liz Courter, Kelley Johnson, Sara Overmier and Jaime Forman-Lau combined to lead the Bronco defense.

Santa Clara will return to the field on Sunday and take on Stanford in a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Santa Clara will open the 2004 season at a tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara January 31-February1. The Broncos will open against Oregon State and play the host Gauchos later that afternoon. Santa Clara will also play Long Beach State and Illinois-Chicago at the tournament.
