SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team lost 4-1 to Iowa and 11-0 to 11th-ranked Washington in action this evening at the 18th Annual National Invitational Softball Tournament at Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale. The Broncos conclude the day 7-16.
Against Iowa, the Broncos sole run of the game came in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Shannon Linerud hit a triple to drive in senior Rachel Sherman. Linerud's hit was the sole hit of the game for Santa Clara.
Senior Jaime Forman-Lau recorded the loss for the Broncos against Iowa. Her record moves to 6-11.
In the second game against Washington, after five innings of play the game ended as a result of the 10-run-rule after Washington scored 11 runs off of 12 hits. Despite the Bronco loss, sophomore Jenny Brown was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Sophomore Liz Courter took the loss for the Broncos against Washington.
The Broncos return to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Twin Creeks. Opponent will be determined based on pool play still in progress.
