LAKEWOOD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team fell to fifth-ranked Washington 1-0 at the Long Beach State Invitational this morning. Host Long Beach State defeated the Broncos 4-0 in the afternoon game. The Broncos are now 2-8 on the season.
In the morning game, the Huskies managed a single, game-winning run in the top of the third inning. The rest of the game would remain scoreless.
Senior Jaime Forman-Lau pitched all seven innings for the Broncos tallying nine strikeouts and one walk.
The Broncos finished with no runs, two hits and no errors. Washington finished with one run, six hits and no errors.
In the second game of the day, Long Beach State took the early led over the Broncos scoring all four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Santa Clara's defense silenced the 49ers offense for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore Jessica Clee was 2-for-3 at the plate for Santa Clara.
Sophomore Liz Courter took the loss for the Broncos in the circle.
Santa Clara finished with no runs, five hits and one error. Long Beach State finished with four runs, seven hits and no errors.
The Broncos will return to action next Friday against Pacific at 11 a.m. at the Stanford Tournament. Santa Clara is slated to play host Stanford at 3 p.m. in the afternoon game.
