Final Stats

PORTLAND, Ore. - Shannon Linerud and Tracie Hall drove in all five Bronco runs as Santa Clara knocked-off Portland State 5-2 in the second game of a Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader Saturday at Erv Lind Stadium.

The Broncos, who dropped the first game of the two-game set by a score of 2-1 despite a strong performance from Jaime Forman-Lau, remain in first-place in the PCSC with a 12-4 league mark and are 30-24 overall. The Vikings remain in third-place in the league with a mark of 10-8, 19-19.

Game two was played during a steady rain and became very sloppy for both sides as the two teams combined to commit seven errors. A first-inning error by PSU first baseman Nichole Ivie on leadoff batter Jenny Brown's ground ball opened SCU's two-run inning. Brown advanced home on a two-out homer by Hall, her sixth of the season, to put the Broncos ahead 2-0.

Additionally, Hall's home run set a single-season record, topping teammate Rachel Sherman's mark of 5 set in 2002.

Santa Clara added three more in the third to take a commanding 5-0 lead, chasing starting pitcher Morgan Seibert, who started both games and lasted just 2.2 innings in the second.

Forman-Lau (21-12) earned both decisions in the doubleheader for Santa Clara. She pitched 4.2 innings of shutout ball in the nightcap, allowed two hits and struck out six. In the opener, she went six-and-one-third innings and allowed just four hits.

Second-place Loyola Marymount (30-20, 11-5 PCSC) had its scheduled doubleheader with Saint Mary's (23-23, 5-9 PCSC) rained out on Saturday, which means the three-team race between the Broncos, Lions and Vikings for the inaugural PCSC Championship remains up in the air. Portland State concludes its season with two more games against the Broncos on Sunday, while LMU and Saint Mary's will attempt to play three games on Sunday and make the fourth up at a later date, if necessary. Santa Clara ends their season with a doubleheader against Saint Mary's on Tuesday, May 6.
