Apr 29, 2013 - Women's Soccer Catching Up with Redshirt Junior Allie Vernon Allie Vernon (AV) is a rising redshirt senior from Homer Glen, Ill. Vernon won the West Coast Conference Freshman player of the year award her first year as a member of the women’s soccer team at SCU, but then was forced to redshirt as a sophomore due to an injury. After experiencing a severe back injury that almost prevented Vernon from ever playing soccer again, she talks about what motivated during recovery. Mar 6, 2013 - Women's Soccer In Net with Andi Tostanoski Coming off a great season and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, freshman goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski is inspired to get even better next season. She started all 20 games she appeared in and had a season-high of 11 saves against BYU with 73 overall. Tostanoski also received a WCC All-Freshman Team selection. It was recently announced that Johnston has been named to her first full U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team training camp. Sep 11, 2012 - Women's Soccer U.S. Wins U-20 World Cup, US Captain and Bronco Player, Julie Johnston, Wins Bronze Ball Winning the U-20 World Cup as the captain was a huge deal for Bronco forward Julie Johnston and being awarded the Bronze Ball was just icing on the cake! Playing against the best in the world in the under-20 age group, the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team, captained by Johnson, won the U-20 World Cup by taking down Germany 1-0 on Sept. 8. Germany had taken down the U.S. 3-0 during group play and hadn't surrendered a goal in six games during the tournament. The lone goal of the match was scored by Kealia Ohai on an assists from Crystal Dunn. It is the third championship for the U.S. squad, one more than Germany. [more]

The tournament is in its 16th season in 2012. The Broncos will host No. 3 Stanford, UNC Greensboro and No. 15 San Diego State. Stanford will be making its 13th trip to the Classic and are 18-5-1 all-time with three tournament wins. Jun 11, 2012 - Women's Soccer Three Women's Soccer Players Square Off at National Camp With the rare chance to face Bronco teammates in competitive matches this spring, three Santa Clara women's soccer players participated in the U-20 and U-23 National Camps in June. Juniors Meleana Shim and Morgan Marlborough played for the U-23 team and took on sophomore Julie Johnston and the U-20 team in two competitive matches. While the camp lasted two weeks, Huerta was only able to attend for one week due to academic responsibilities. Feb 15, 2012 - Women's Soccer Johnston and Huerta Represent Santa Clara at U20 Women's Soccer Training Camp While most students are still shaking off the rust of a three week winter break, Santa Clara University women's soccer was well represented at the U20 Women's Soccer National Team Camp in January. First-Team All-American and First-Team All-WCC sophomore Julie Johnston and First-Team All-WCC freshman Sofia Huerta worked with some of the best young talent in the country. They accomplished something every team at every level wants to do: win a championship. Sep 30, 2011 - Women's Soccer 10 Years Later: Remembering The 2001 Santa Clara Women's Soccer National Championship with Alyssa Sobolik The 2001 national champion Santa Clara women's soccer roster featured five All-Americans, nine All-WCC performers and the WCC Player of the Year. One of the most important players on that team, however, was a freshman that did not receive any individual accolades. Goalkeeper Alyssa Sobolik (AS) went 14-2 in goal for the Broncos while making 32 saves and only allowing a 0.56 GAA. Of her 14 wins on the season, seven were shutouts, including a 1-0 shutout of North Carolina in the national championship game. With depth being a point of strength coming into the season, no one put this on display as well as Molly Mettler.
