Meet the Future of Bronco Women's Soccer: Sydney Myers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Getting set to welcome the next wave of Broncos to the Mission campus, Santa Clara women's soccer welcomes Sydney Myers in the signing class of 2014. Myers is from Park City, Utah and attended Brighton High School.

"I chose Santa Clara because of its amazing soccer program and academic excellence," said Myers. "I love the environment of the campus and have always wanted to live in California. The coaching staff and the team really stood out to me as well and I'm really looking forward to being a part of it. I know that Santa Clara will help me reach both my athletic and academic goals and make me better on and off the field."

"Sydney is one of the most athletic players in the class and one of the most versatile," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "She can play in the back line, in the midfield, or up front and we envision her playing in the middle of the field. She is a left-footer and in addition to what she brings in term of the run of play, she can serve a great left-footed free kick or be on the end of a good service and head the ball into the goal. She will also have a chance to impact our starting lineup."

In 2013 Myers was a captain of her high school team and was named All-State. She helped lead the team to a 16-2-1 overall mark en route to winning the 5A state championship.

Her team also won the 5A state championship in 2010 when they went 17-0-3. Myers was named 2010 Rookie of the Year.

Her club team won the Utah Sate Cup in 2010 and 2013 as well making it to the finals of the War West Regionals in 2013. Myers was a member of the 2011 U-17 National Team camp.

Off the field Myers was a member of the National Honor Society.

In her free time she enjoys being with family and friends, skiing, boating, and running.
