Women's Soccer Finishes Successful Spring Season with 4-1 Win at Stanford
Santa Clara women’s soccer wrapped-up its spring season with a commanding 4-1 win over Stanford on May 3. It is the third consecutive spring that the Broncos have taken down the Cardinal. Sofia Huerta scored two goals while Morgan Marlborough and Julie Johnston each added one goal apiece.

Women's Soccer Wraps Up Spring Season at Stanford on Friday
Continuing its spring season, Santa Clara women’s soccer fell to the Bay Area Breeze 3-2 on April 20 and beat the Sacramento Storm for the second time during the spring by a final of 6-0 on April 28. The Broncos are 3-1 this spring with one game remaining.

Catching Up with Redshirt Junior Allie Vernon
Allie Vernon (AV) is a rising redshirt senior from Homer Glen, Ill. Vernon won the West Coast Conference Freshman player of the year award her first year as a member of the women’s soccer team at SCU, but then was forced to redshirt as a sophomore due to an injury. After experiencing a severe back injury that almost prevented Vernon from ever playing soccer again, she talks about what motivated during recovery. She also talks about her best experience as a member of the women’s soccer team and the realistic and ultimate goal her team has of winning a national championship.

Santa Clara women’s soccer moved its spring record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the Sacramento Storm on April 14. Brittany Ambrose scored her first goal as a Bronco and Sofia Huerta added a hat trick.

Women's Soccer Takes Down Cal 4-1 in Spring Opener
Santa Clara women’s soccer won its first spring match of the season 4-1 over Cal on April 7. Dani Weatherholt, Aly Birgel, Sofia Huerta and Stephanie Sorg scored the four Bronco goals while Morgan Marlborough, Julie Vass, Alesha Blair and Brittany Ambrose all saw their first collegiate action.

Women's Soccer Set to Open Spring Season vs. Cal
Coming off the 24th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, Santa Clara women’s soccer will open its spring season on Sun., April 7 at 7 p.m. vs. Cal at Buck Shaw. As of now, the Broncos are scheduled to play Cal, the California Storm of the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the Bay Area Breeze of the WPSL and Stanford. The Broncos are coming off of back-to-back undefeated spring seasons with a win over Stanford in each season.

Santa Clara's Julie Johnston Named to Glamour Magazine's Top-10 Collegiate Women
Santa Clara junior forward Julie Johnston has been named one of Glamour Magazine’s Top-10 Collegiate Women. It is just one of many honors that have come to Johnston over the past year and a half. Johnston has also gotten her first cap with the Women’s National Team, won the U-20 World Cup as the captain of the U.S. squad and won the Bronze Ball.

Coming off a great season and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, freshman goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski is inspired to get even better next season. She started all 20 games she appeared in and had a season-high of 11 saves against BYU with 73 overall. Tostanoski also received a WCC All-Freshman Team selection. After completing winter training, Tostanoski is motivated for the team's five exhibition games in the coming spring.

With one Bronco already making her National Team debut this year, Santa Clara women’s soccer had two players play a big role in the U-23 National Team’s recent win in the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain. Julie Johnston and Morgan Marlborough both scored goals in the U.S.’s two-win showing at the tournament this week.

Three Women's Soccer Players Taken in NWSL Supplemental Draft
Continuing to show that it produces top talent, Santa Clara women’s soccer had three players picked in the new National Women’s Soccer League Supplemental Draft on Feb. 7. The three players chosen were Bianca Henninger ’11 by FC Kansas City in the second round, Jordan Angeli ‘09 by the Washington Spirit in the third round and Marian Dalmy ‘06 by the Portland Thorns FC in the fourth round.

Julie Johnston Named to First Full National Team Camp
Standout Santa Clara women’s soccer star Julie Johnston had a tremendous 2012 and things are getting even better in 2013. It was recently announced that Johnston has been named to her first full U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team training camp. She will join 17of the 18 players that were part of the Olympic Gold Medal winning team from London last summer.

EYEBRONCO reporter Lauren Matheson talked with a few of Santa Clara's award-winning Broncos to get an inside look on how they prepared for their respective seasons. She asked them three questions and got some really interesting feed-back! She spoke with All-Americans Erik Hurtado (men's soccer) and Julie Johnson (women's soccer). Continuing to pick up accolades, Santa Clara women’s soccer had three players named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women All-West Region teams. Bronco Women's Soccer Star Julie Johnston Wins U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year Award
Winning yet another award, Santa Clara women’s soccer midfielder and team captain Julie Johnston won the U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year award on Monday. Johnston is the third Bronco to win the award, following Aly Wagner in 2000 and Bianca Henninger in 2010.

In a year where the honors keep rolling in, Santa Clara women’s soccer junior midfielder Julie Johnston has been announced as a finalist for the U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year Award as well as a semi-finalist for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy. Johnston was also named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Season.

Women's Soccer Falls in Second Round of NCAA Tournament
On a cold and cloudy Northern California night in front of a boisterous crowd that included 100 Ruff Riders, No. 17 Santa Clara women’s soccer fell to No. 1 Stanford 2-1. Santa Clara ends its season 12-4-6 while Stanford improves to 19-1-1 and moves onto the Sweet 16 for a match-up with Denver.

Santa Clara Women's Soccer Advances to NCAA Tournament Second Round with 2-1 Win Over Long Beach State
In the opening round of the NCAA tournament, No. 17 Santa Clara women’s soccer beat Long Beach State by a final of 2-1 to advance to the second round. Santa Clara is now 12-3-6 and Long Beach State finishes its season 12-8-0.

Bronco Women's Soccer Set for Match-Up with Long Beach State in NCAA Tournament
After wrapping-up the regular season with a win at Saint Mary’s, No. 18 Santa Clara women’s soccer will host Long Beach State in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Sat., Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Buck Shaw. It is the 23rd time the Broncos have made the NCAA tournament and will be looking to make their 11th Final Four.

In it second-to-last weekend of home games in 2012, No. 19 Santa Clara women’s soccer will host Gonzaga on Sun., Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. in its only game of the week. Last weekend the Broncos took down LMU at home 1-0 and fell to No. 17 Pepperdine on the road by a final of 2-1. Santa Clara’s overall record is 8-3-4 and 1-1-1 in WCC play.

Facing another top-25 team on the road, No. 18 Santa Clara women’s soccer fell to No. 17 Pepperdine by a final of 2-1. The loss drops the Broncos to 8-3-4 overall and 1-1-1 in WCC play and snaps a 10 game unbeaten streak. The Waves are now 11-3-0 with a 2-0-0 mark in conference.

Julie Johnston Added to M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Award Watch List for Second Consecutive Year
For the third time in as many years, Santa Clara women’s soccer has a player on the MAC Hermann Award Watch List. Junior captain Julie Johnston is one of 38 NCAA Division I women’s soccer players to be selected by the Missouri Athletic Club. Johnston joins Lindsi Lisonbee of BYU and Michelle Pao of Pepperdine as the only players in the West Coast Conference to be on the 2012 list.

Women's Soccer Set for PINK Match vs. LMU, Visit to No. 17 Pepperdine
After opening West Coast Conference play with a hard-fought tie last weekend, No. 18 Santa Clara women’s soccer will host LMU on Fri., Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. before traveling to No. 17 Pepperdine to take on the Waves on Sun., Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. The Broncos, coming off a 0-0 tie at No. 6 BYU, are 7-2-4 overall in 2012 and 0-0-1 in conference play. It was the first trip for Santa Clara to the hostile environment of BYU since 2000 when the Broncos came away with a 2-1 overtime win in the NCAA Tournament.

West Coast Conference Student-Athletes REPRESENT For Fourth Straight Year
On Thursday, October 11, the West Coast Conference will officially begin its yearlong REPRESENT initiative topromote positive sportsmanship on its nine campuses. Starting with fall competition, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball will host one REPRESENT match during conference play, while men’s and women’s cross country will participate in a REPRESENT event on-site at the 2012 West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships on October 27.

Opening its conference schedule vs. a top-10 team, No. 21 Santa Clara women's soccer took on No. 6 BYU in the first-ever regular season game in Provo for the Broncos. Santa Clara played to a 0-0 draw and is now at 7-2-4 overall and 0-0-1 in WCC play. The Cougars move to 11-1-1 and 0-0-1 in conference.

After wrapping-up an undefeated month of September and finishing non-conference play, No. 21 Santa Clara women's soccer will travel to No. 6 BYU to take on the Cougars on Fri., Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. Pacific in its first West Coast Conference match-up of 2012. The Broncos played their fifth overtime game of the season vs. Fresno State on Sept. 27 and came away with a 3-2 win.

Women's Soccer to Play Final Non-Conference Game of 2012 vs. Fresno State
Preparing for its final non-conference game of the season, No. 25 Santa Clara women's soccer will host Fresno State on Thur., Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in the only game of the week for the Broncos. Last weekend Santa Clara took down CSU Northridge 1-0 in overtime and Washington State 3-0. With the two wins the Broncos' record is 6-2-3 and 5-0-1 at home. In the first RPI of the season, Santa Clara comes in at No. 14.

Coming off of a two-win weekend, Julie Johnston of Santa Clara women's soccer was named WCC Player of the Week and Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week on Monday. Johnston is currently ranked No. 5 among Upperclassmen and No. 1 in the WCC according to Top Drawer Soccer.

In its penultimate non-conference game of 2012, Santa Clara women's soccer beat Washington State, whose previous game was a 0-0 tie at No. 2 UCLA, 3-0 behind a big second half. Santa Clara moves to 6-2-3 and Washington State is now 6-2-1.

Women's Soccer Preparing for CSU Northridge, Washington State
After a weekend of finally playing with all of its players, Santa Clara women's soccer will host CSU Northridge on Fri., Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Washington State on Sun., Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. Last weekend the Broncos took on No. 15 San Diego State and battled to a 1-1 tie and took down UNC Greensboro 4-2 in the Santa Clara Classic. Stanford won the overall team title but Julie Johnston, Sofia Huerta and Olivia Klei were named to the All-Classic Team.

Broncos Take Down UNC Greensboro 4-2
In its first game with all of its eligible players, Santa Clara women's soccer erupted for a season-high four goals in a 4-2 win over UNC Greensboro in the second game of the Santa Clara Classic. The win puts Santa Clara at 4-2-2 and drops the Spartans to 3-4-0.

Dani Weatherholt of the Bronco Women's Soccer Team's Succesful Start To a Great Season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It is a very exciting time on the Santa Clara University campus as incoming freshman will be moving in this weekend. Returning students are starting to come back to the area and the campus seems more crowded each day. For freshman Dani Weatherholt of the Bronco women’s soccer team, her life as a Bronco had a great start as she scored her first goal in the 90th minute during their third game of the season vs. UC Riverside on Aug. 26th and contributed to the team’s 3-0 victory. Women's Soccer Hosts Santa Clara Classic This Weekend
Santa Clara University women's soccer will once again host the Santa Clara Classic after taking a break from hosting duties in 2011. The tournament is in its 16th season in 2012. The Broncos will host No. 3 Stanford, UNC Greensboro and No. 15 San Diego State. Stanford will be making its 13th trip to the Classic and are 18-5-1 all-time with three tournament wins. The Broncos have taken home eight titles and are 26-2-2 while outscoring opponents 92-15 with 17 shutouts.

U.S. Wins U-20 World Cup, US Captain and Bronco Player, Julie Johnston, Wins Bronze Ball
Winning the U-20 World Cup as the captain was a huge deal for Bronco forward Julie Johnston and being awarded the Bronze Ball was just icing on the cake! Playing against the best in the world in the under-20 age group, the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team, captained by Johnson, won the U-20 World Cup by taking down Germany 1-0 on Sept. 8. Germany had taken down the U.S. 3-0 during group play and hadn't surrendered a goal in six games during the tournament. The lone goal of the match was scored by Kealia Ohai on an assists from Crystal Dunn. It is the third championship for the U.S. squad, one more than Germany.

Johnston Helps Lead U-20 Women's National Team to World Cup Final
Playing on the world's stage, Santa Clara junior captain Julie Johnston and the U-20 Women's National Team advanced to the championship of the U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan where it will play Germany. The game will take place on Sept. 8 at 3:20 a.m. PDT in Tokyo. Germany took down Japan 3-0 in the semi-finals and beat the U.S. 3-0 in the group stage.

Opening the home portion of its 2012 schedule, No. 25 Santa Clara women's soccer took down UC Riverside by a final of 3-0 for its second consecutive win. Santa Clara Unable To Hold Early Lead, Fall To No. 1 Stanford
On a warm summer night in front of the home crowd of the defending national champions, No.17 Santa Clara women's soccer team kicked-off the 2012 season with a 6-1 loss vs. No. 1 Stanford. Despite taking an early 1-0 lead and holding it into the start of the second half, Stanford scored six unanswered goals in the second half, including five in the first 20 minutes, to put the game away.

The Broncos travel to Stanford to take on the defending national champion and current top-ranked Cardinal in a battle of top-20 teams. The Cardinal have been to the College Cup final each of the last three years, capturing their first-ever title in 2012.

Bronco Women's Soccer Picked To Win the WCC; League High Four Picked on Preseason All-WCC Team
The West Coast Conference coaches have set the bar very high for the Santa Clara Bronco women’s soccer team, picking them to win the WCC title this year and placing four Broncos on the 11-woman All-WCC preseason team – the most for any team. The Broncos received 63 votes to Pepperdine’s 52 in the coaches vote the league office released on Tuesday. Santa Clara is working to win its 10th WCC title, grab its 24th NCAA tournament bid and advance to its 11th Final Four.

Looking to build on last season's top-20 campaign, Santa Clara women's soccer announced its 2012 schedule Friday. After playing in the program's 23rd NCAA Tournament in 2011, Santa Clara will continue to compete against an impressive list of the nation's top teams in non-conference play, starting with defending national champion Stanford on the road on Aug. 17, before opening up WCC play at BYU on Oct. 5. The Broncos will report for practices on July 31.

Three Women's Soccer Players Square Off at National Camp
With the rare chance to face Bronco teammates in competitive matches this spring, three Santa Clara women's soccer players participated in the U-20 and U-23 National Camps in June. Juniors Meleana Shim and Morgan Marlborough played for the U-23 team and took on sophomore Julie Johnston and the U-20 team in two competitive matches. Both games ended in ties, 4-4 and 3-3, but all three Broncos enjoyed the experience of facing teammates.
